Argentina clinch semi-final spot with dramatic late winner

Argentina secured their place in the World Cup 2026 semi-finals after a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Netherlands at MetLife Stadium on Saturday. A 89th-minute strike from Julián Álvarez proved decisive in a match that had appeared destined for extra time.

Julián Álvarez scored in the 89th minute, while Cody Gakpo had earlier equalized for the Netherlands in the 62nd minute. Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 34th minute.

找到:Messi(34 分鐘,12 碼)、Gakpo(62 分鐘)、Álvarez(89 分鐘)。

像題目問 "When did the first goal occur?",可以回頭找 "first goal" 或 "opened the scoring"。

The Netherlands dominated possession for large stretches of the second half, but Argentina's clinical counter-attacking proved too much to handle. Head coach Lionel Scaloni's decision to introduce Álvarez as a second-half substitute was widely regarded as the tactical masterstroke that turned the tide.

碰到 "What can be inferred about Argentina's strategy?",就要把這些線索接起來。

What is this article mainly about?

Argentina secured their place in the World Cup 2026 semi-finals after a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Netherlands at MetLife Stadium on Saturday. A 89th-minute strike from Julián Álvarez proved decisive in a match that had appeared destined for extra time. The Netherlands dominated possession for large stretches of the second half, but Argentina's clinical counter-attacking proved too much to handle.

A. The Netherlands played well but lost. B. Argentina beat the Netherlands 2-1 to reach the semi-finals. C. Julián Álvarez is the best player in the tournament. D. The match was played at MetLife Stadium.

According to the article, when did the first goal occur? Who scored the equalizer for the Netherlands?

What can be inferred about Argentina's strategy in the second half? The author suggests that the substitution was ______.

搭配 masterstroke(妙招)和 turned the tide(扭轉局勢),可以推知這段認為換人對賽果有幫助。

clinch 鎖定(勝利、晉級) Argentina clinch semi-final spot. clinch a deal(達成交易)
Saudi Arabia pulled off a stunning upset.
Brazil dominated the match. The company dominates the market.
Germany conceded three goals. He conceded defeat.(承認失敗)
The next fixture is scheduled for July 5.
The team rallied in the second half. The stock market rallied.(股市反彈)

Their clinical finishing was the difference.
counter-attack 反擊 They scored on the counter-attack.
possession 控球 Spain had 65% possession.
masterstroke 妙招 The substitution was a tactical masterstroke.
turn the tide 扭轉局勢 That goal turned the tide in their favor.
breakthrough 突破 They finally got the breakthrough in the 70th minute.
resilience 韌性 The team showed great resilience.

The striker scored a hat-trick.
The midfielder controlled the tempo.
He came on as a second-half substitute.
campaign 征戰(整個賽季/盃賽) Their World Cup campaign continues.
deadlock 僵局 Álvarez broke the deadlock in the 89th minute.
fixture 賽事 The semi-final fixture is on Tuesday.
spot-kick 12 碼罰球 Morocco saved two spot-kicks.

clinch 可以用在商業(clinch a deal = 達成交易),dominate 可以用在市場分析(the company dominates the market),turn the tide 可以用在任何描述局勢轉變的情境,rally 可以用在經濟報導(the economy rallied after the recession)。

Argentina clinch semi-final spot.

Argentina clinch semi-final spot. Japan stun Germany in group stage thriller.

President announces new policy.(省略 The) Team ready for final.(省略 is 和 the) Morocco through to semi-finals.(省略 are 和 the)

Argentina to face Brazil in semi-final. Japan to host 2026 friendly match.

在這種標題裡,to 帶出預定的未來事件:"Argentina to face Brazil" 可以還原成 "Argentina will face Brazil"。

Messi scores, Argentina advance.

等於 "Messi scores and Argentina advance."

Saudi Arabia stunned by Japan. 10 injured in stadium stampede.

stunned = were stunned。injured = were injured。省略 be 動詞,只留過去分詞。

Japan stun Germany in group stage thriller

Japan pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 World Cup, defeating Germany 2-1 in a pulsating Group E encounter at BMO Field in Toronto. Takumi Minamino opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Germany equalized through Jamal Musiala shortly after halftime. However, a stunning 78th-minute volley from Kaoru Mitoma sealed a famous victory for the Samurai Blue, sending Japanese fans into delirium.

German head coach Julian Nagelsmann admitted his side had been "too passive" in the second half, while Japan's Hajime Moriyasu praised his players' "incredible fighting spirit." The result leaves Germany in a precarious position in Group E, needing to win their final match to have any chance of advancing.

3.(精讀)"pulled off one of the biggest upsets" 這句話暗示了什麼?

  2. Minamino(33 分鐘)、Mitoma(78 分鐘)。
upset" 和 "one of the biggest" 暗示這是一個出乎意料的結果。
  4. B。

France dominate possession but fail to break down resilient Morocco

France controlled 68% of possession in their quarter-final clash against Morocco but were unable to find a breakthrough as the Atlas Lions defended resolutely for 120 minutes. The match went to a penalty shootout, where Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved two spot-kicks to send his side through to the semi-finals for the first time in their history.

French coach Didier Deschamps admitted his side had been "outfought" despite dominating the ball. "We had the ball, but they had the heart," he said in the post-match press conference. Morocco will face Argentina in the semi-finals.

5.(精讀)"We had the ball, but they had the heart."

  5. 法國有控球(the ball),摩洛哥有鬥志(the heart)。

World Cup 2026 sets new attendance record as tournament enters final week

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, has broken the all-time attendance record with over 5.2 million spectators attending matches across 16 host cities. FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the figures as "a testament to the power of football in North America."

The previous record of 3.6 million was set during the 1994 World Cup in the United States. Organizers attribute the surge in attendance to expanded stadium capacities and the addition of 48 teams to the tournament format, up from 32 in previous editions.

However, critics have raised concerns about the environmental impact of hosting matches across such a vast geographic area, with teams and fans traveling thousands of kilometers between venues. FIFA has pledged to offset the tournament's carbon emissions through various sustainability initiatives.
